|English| And when it is said to them, "Believe sincerely as the other people have believed", they reply, "Should we believe as fools have believed? Beware! they themselves are the fools, but they know it not.

|English| When they meet those who believe, they say, "We, too, are believers", but when they privily meet their evil geniuses, they say, "Indeed we are with you: we are only mocking at these people".

|Transliteration| Mathaluhum kamathali allathee istawqada naran falamma adaat ma hawlahu thahaba Allahu binoorihim watarakahum fee thulumatin la yubsiroona

|English| Their condition may be described in a parable: a man kindled a fire and when it illuminated all around him, Allah took away the light from their eyes and left them in utter darkness, where they could not see anything.

|Transliteration| Aw kasayyibin mina alssamai feehi thulumatun waraAAdun wabarqun yajAAaloona asabiAAahum fee athanihim mina alssawaAAiqi hathara almawti waAllahu muheetun bialkafireena

|English| Or (still another parable may be cited to depict their condition): heavy rain is falling from the sky, accompanied by pitch darkness, thunder and lightning. When they hear the thunderclap, they thrust their fingers into their ears for fear of death, but Allah is encircling the disbelievers on all sides.

|Urdu1| یا پھر ان کی مثال یوں سمجھو کہ آسمان سے زور کی بارش ہو رہی ہے اور اس کے ساتھ اندھیری گھٹا اور کڑک اور چمک بھی ہے، یہ بجلی کے کڑاکے سُن کر اپنی جانوں کے خوف سے کانوں میں اُنگلیاں ٹھونسے لیتے ہیں اور اللہ اِن منکرینِ حق کو ہر طرف سے گھیرے میں لیئے ہوئے ہے

|Transliteration| yakadu albarqu yakhtafu absarahum kullama adaa lahum mashaw feehi wa itha athlama AAalayhim qamoo wa law shaa Allahu lathahaba bisamAAihim wa absarihim inna Allaha AAala kulli shayin qadeerun

|English| The lightning terrifies them as if it were going to snatch away their eyesight from them. When they see light, they move on a little further and When it becomes dark for them, they stand still. Had Allah so willed, He could have deprived them totally of their hearing and their sight. Most surely Allah has power over everything.

|Urdu1| چمک سے اُن کی حالت یہ ہو رہی ہے کہ گویا عنقریب بجلی اُن کی بصارت اُچک لے جائے گی۔ جب ذرا کچھ روشنی انہیں محسُوس ہوتی ہے تو اس میں کچھ دُور چل لیتے ہیں اور جب ان پر اندھیرا چھا جاتا ہے تو کھڑے ہو جاتے ہیں۔ اللہ چاہتا تو ان کی سماعت اور بصارت بالکل ہی سلب کر لیتا، یقیناً وہ ہر چیز پر قادر ہے

|English| It is He Who has made the earth a bed for you and the sky a canopy; and it is He Who sends down rain from above for the growth of every kind of food products for your sustenance. So, when you know this, you should not set up equals to rank with Allah

|Urdu1| وہی تو ہے جس نے تمہارے لیئے زمین کا فرش بچھایا، آسمان کی چھت بنائی، اُوپر سے پانی برسایا اور اس کے ذریعے سے ہر طرح کی پیداوار نکال کر تمہارے لیئے رزق بہم پہنچایا۔ پس جب تم یہ جانتے ہو تو دُوسروں کو اللہ کا مدِّ مقابل نہ ٹھہراؤ

|Transliteration| Wain kuntum fee raybin mimma nazzalna AAala AAabdina fatoo bisooratin min mithlihi waodAAoo shuhadaakum min dooni Allahi in kuntum sadiqeena

|English| And if you be in doubt whether the Book We have sent down to Our Servant is from Us or not, then produce, at least, one Surah like this. You may call all your associates to assist you and avail yourselves of the help of any one other than Allah. If you are genuine in your doubt, do this.

|Urdu1| اور اگر تمہیں اِس امر میں شک ہے کہ یہ کتاب جو ہم نے اُتاری ہے، یہ ہماری ہے یا نہیں، تو اس کے نانند ایک ہی صورت بنا لاؤ، اپنے سارے ہم نواؤں کو بُلا لو، ایک اللہ کو چھوڑ کر جس جس کی ، مدد لے لو، اگر تم سچّے ہو تو یہ کام کر کے دکھاؤ

|English| But if you do not do this, and you can never do this, then fear the Fire which has been prepared for the disbelievers and which shall have men and stones for fuel

|Transliteration| Wabashshiri allatheena amanoo waAAamiloo alssalihati anna lahum jannatin tajree min tahtiha alanharu kullama ruziqoo minha min thamaratin rizqan qaloo hatha allathee ruziqna min qablu waotoo bihi mutashabihan walahum feeha azwajun mutahharatun wahum feeha khalidoona

|English| And give good news (O Muhammad), to those who believe in this Book and do good deeds (in accordance with its teachings). For them there will be gardens underneath which canals flow. Their fruits will so resemble the fruits on the Earth that every time they will be provided with fruits, they will say, "Such fruits were provided to us before on the Earth. " And there will be pure spouses for them and therein they will live for ever.

|Urdu1| اور اے پیغمبر، جو لوگ اس کتاب پر ایمان لے آئیں اور ( اس کے مطابق) اپنے عمل درست کر لیں، انہیں خوشخبری دے دو کہ اُن کے لیئے ایسے باغ ہیں جس کے نیچے نہریں بہتی ہوں گی۔ ان باغوں کے پھل صورت میں دنیا کے پھلوں سے مِلتے جُلتے ہوں گے۔ جب کوئی پھل انہیں کھانے کو دیا جائے گا، تو وہ کہیں گے کہ ایسے ہی پھل اس سے پہلے دنیا میں ہم کو دیئے جاتے تھے۔ ان کے لیئے وہاں پاکیزہ بیویاں ہوں گی، اور وہاں ہمیشہ رہیں گے

|Transliteration| Inna Allaha la yastahyee an yadriba mathalan ma baAAoodatan fama fawqaha faamma allatheena amanoo fayaAAlamoona annahu alhaqqu min rabbihim waamma allatheena kafaroo fayaqooloona matha arada Allahu bihatha mathalan yudillu bihi katheeran wayahdee bihi katheeran wama yudillu bihi illa alfasiqeena

|English| Well, Allah is not ashamed to cite the similitude of a gnat or of something even more insignificant than this. As for those who believe, they come to know from the same similitude that it is the Revelation from their Lord; but those who disbelieve, say, "What does Allah mean by such similitudes?" Allah leads astray many and guides many to the right way by the same thing. And He leads astray only those who disobey Allah;

|Urdu1| ہاں، اللہ اس سے ہرگز نہیں شرماتا کہ مچھّر یا اس سے بھی حقیر تر کسی چیز کی تمثیلیں دے۔جو لوگ حق بات کو قبول کرنے والے ہیں، وہ انہی تمثیلوں کو دیکھ کر جان لیتے ہیں کہ یہ حق ہے جو ان کے رب ہی کی طرف سے آیا ہے، اور جو ماننے والے نہیں ہیں، وہ انہیں سُن کر کہنے لگتے ہیں کی ایسی تمثیلوں سے اللہ کو کیا سروکار؟ اس طرح اللہ ایک ہی بات سے بہتوں کو گمراہی مبتلا کر دیتا ہے اور بہتوں کو راہِ راست دکھا دیتا ہے۔ اور گمراہی میں وہ انہی کو مُبتلا کرتا ہے جو فاسق ہیں

|English| who break Allahs covenant after ratifying it; who cut asunder what Allah has ordered to be joined, and who produce chaos on the Earth. These are the people who are indeed the losers.

|English| Just recall the time when your Lord said to the angels, "I am going to appoint a vicegerent on the Earth." They humbly enquired, "Are you going to appoint such a one as will cause disorder and shed blood on the Earth? We are already engaged in hymning Your praise, and hallowing Your name". Allah replied, "I know what you do not know."

|Urdu1| پھر ذرا اُس وقت کا تصوّر کرو جب تمہارے رب نے فرشتوں سے کہا تھا کہ میں زمین میں ایک خلیفہ بنانے والا ہوں"، انہوں نے عرض کیا:" کیا آپ زمین میں کسی ایسے کو مقرر کرنے والے ہیں، جو اس کے انتظام کو بگاڑ دے گا اور خون ریزیاں کے گا؟ آپ کی حمد و ثنا کے ساتھ تسبیح اور آپ کے لیئے تقدیس تو ہم ہی کر رہے ہیں" فرمایا: "میں جانتا ہوں، جو کچھ تم نہیں جانتے"۔

|English| Then Allah said to Adam, "Tell them the names of these things." When Adam told them the names of all those things, Allah declared, "Did I not tell you that I know those truths about the Earth and the Heavens which are hidden from you? I know what you disclose and what you hide."

Our Command and brought them out of the state they were in, and We decreed, "Now, go down all of you from here; you are enemies of one another. Henceforth you shall dwell and provide for yourselves on the Earth for a specified period."

|English| Remember that when Moses (returned with the Divine Gift, he) said to his people, "O my people, you have .wronged yourselves grievously by taking the calf for worship. Therefore, turn to your Creator . in penitence and slay the guilty ones among you.70 This is best for you in the sight of your Creator." At that time your Creator accepted your repentance because He is Relenting and Merciful.

|Urdu1| یاد کرو جب موسٰی (یہ نعمت لیئے ہوئے پلٹا، تو اُس) نے اپنی قوم سے کہا کہ "لوگو، تم نے بچھڑے کو معبُود بنا کر اپنے اُوپر سخت ظلم کیا ہے، لہٰذا تم لوگ اپنے خالق کے حضُور توبہ کرو اور اپنی جانوں کو ہلاک کرو، اسی میں تمہارے خالق کے نزدیک تمہاری بہتری ہے"۔ اُس وقت تمہارے خالق نے تمہاری توبہ قبول کر لی کہ وہ بڑا معاف کرنے والا اور رحم فرمانے والا ہے

|Transliteration| Wathallalna AAalaykumu alghamama waanzalna AAalaykumu almanna waalssalwa kuloo min tayyibati ma razaqnakum wama thalamoona walakin kanoo anfusahum yathlimoona

|English| (Remember that) We caused the cloud to overshadow you and provided you with72 manna and salva73 for your food, saying, "Eat of the clean and pure things We have bestowed upon you" (In spite of this, your forefathers violated Our commands:) however, they did not harm Us but harmed only themselves.

|Urdu1| ہم نے تم پر ابر کا سایہ کیا، من و سلویٰ کی غذا تمہارے لیئے فراہم کی اور تم سے کہا کہ جو پاک چیزیں یم نے تمہیں بخشی ہیں، اُنھیں کھاؤ، مگر تمہارے اسلاف نے جو کچھ کیا، وہ ہم پر ظلم نہ تھا، بلکہ انہوں نے آپ اپنے ہی اُوپر ظلم کیا

|Transliteration| Waith qulna odkhuloo hathihi alqaryata fakuloo minha haythu shitum raghadan waodkhuloo albaba sujjadan waqooloo hittatun naghfir lakum khatayakum wasanazeedu almuhsineena

|English| Then call to mind the time when We said, "Go into the town before you and eat to your hearts content therein, wherefrom you will, but enter the gate bowing down with humility, repeating hittatun We will forgive your sins and increase the reward of the righteous".

|Urdu1| پھر یاد کرو جب ہم نے کہا تھا کہ "یہ بستی جو تمہارے سامنے ہے، اس میں داخل ہو جاؤ، اس کی پیداوار جس طرح چاہو کھاؤ، مگر بستی کے دروازے میں سجدہ ریز ہوتے ہوئے داخل ہونا اور کہتے جانا حِطَّۃ حِطَّۃ، ہم تمہاری خطاؤں سے درگزر کریں گے اور نیکوکاروں کو مزید فضل و کرم سے نوازیں گے

|Transliteration| Fabaddala allatheena thalamoo qawlan ghayra allathee qeela lahum faanzalna AAala allatheena thalamoo rijzan mina alssamai bima kanoo yafsuqoona

|English| But the transgressors perverted the words said to them entirely into a different thing. So We sent down upon the transgressors a severe torment from the sky : that was the punishment for the disobedience they were showing.

|English| Remember that when Moses prayed for water for his people, We answered, "Strike the rock with your staff" : whereupon twelve springs gushed forth from it; the people of every clan came to know their drinking place. (Then they were enjoined:) "Eat and drink of what Allah has provided and do not spread disorder on the earth."

|Urdu1| یاد کرو، جب موسیٰ نے اپنی قوم کے لیئے پانی کی دعا کی تو ہم نے کہا کہ فلاں چٹان پر اپنا عصا مارو۔ چنانچہ اِس سے بارہ چشمے پُھوٹ نکلے اور ہر قبیلے نے جان لیا کہ کونسی جگہ اس کے پانی لینے کی ہے۔ اُس وقت یہ ہدایت کر دی گئی تھی کہ اللہ کا دیا ہُوا رزق کھاؤ پیو، اور زمین میں فساد نہ پھیلاتے پھرو۔

|Transliteration| wa ith qultum ya moosa lan nasbira AAala taAAamin wahidin faodAAu lana rabbaka yukhrij lana mimma tunbitu alardu min baqliha wa qiththaiha wa foomiha wa AAadasiha wa basaliha qala atastabdiloona allathee huwa adna biallathee huwa khayrun ihbitoo misran fainna lakum ma saaltum wa duribat AAalayhimu alththillatu wa almaskanatu wabaoo bighadabin mina Allahi thalika biannahum kanoo yakfuroona biayati Allahi wa yaqtuloona alnnabiyyeena bighayri alhaqqi thalika bima AAasaw wa kanoo yaAAtadoona

|English| Remember: You grumbled: "O Moses, we cannot endure one and the same sort of food. Pray your Lord to bring for us the products of the earth green herbs, vegetables, corn, garlic, onions, pulses and the like." Moses replied: "What! would you exchange that which is meaner for that which is nobler? Well, go and live in a town and you will get there what you demand." By and by, they became so degraded that disgrace and humiliation, misery and wretchedness were stamped upon them and they incurred Allahs wrath. That was because they began to reject the Revelations of Allah78 and kill His Messengers without any just cause; that was the consequence of their disobedience and their persistent transgression against the Law.

|Urdu1| یاد کرو، جب تم نے کہا تھا کہ "اے موسیٰ، ہم ایک ہی طرح کے کھانے پر صبر نہیں کر سکتے۔ اپنے رب سے دُعا کرو کہ ہمارے لیئے زمین کی پیداوار، ساگ، ترکاری، گیہوں، لہسن، پیاز، دال وغیرہ پیدا کرے"۔ تو موسیٰ نے کہا: "کیا ایک بہتر چیز کے بجائے تم ادنیٰ درجے کی چیزیں لینا چاہتے ہو؟ اچھا، کسی شہری آبادی میں جا رہو۔ جو کچھ تم مانگتے ہو، وہاں مل جائے گا"۔ آخرکار نوبت یہاں تک پہنچی کہ ذِلّت و خواری اور پستی اور بدحالی اُن پر مسلّط ہو گئی اور وہ اللہ کے غضب میں گھِر گئے۔ یہ نتیجہ تھا اُن کی نافرمانیوں کا اور اس بات کا کہ وہ حدُودِ شرع سے نِکل نِکل جاتے تھے

|English| Rest assured that whosoever from among the Muslims or the Jews or the Christians or the Sabaeans believes in Allah and the Last Day, and performs good deeds, he will have his reward with his Lord and he will have no cause for fear and grief.80

|Urdu1| یقین جانو کہ نبی عربی کو ماننے والے ہوں یا یہودی، عیسائی ہوں یا صابی، جو بھی اللہ اور روزِ آخر پر ایمان لائے گا اور نیک عمل کرے گا، اُس کا اجر اس کے رب کے پاس ہر اور اور اس کے لیئےکسی خوف اور رنج کا موقع نہیں ہے

|English| Call to mind the time when We raised above you the Tur and made a covenant with you, saying, "Hold fast to the Book which We are giving you and bear in mind the commands and precepts contained therein. It is expected that this will lead you on to the paths of virtue and piety."

|Urdu1| یاد کرو وہ وقت، جب ہم نے طُور کو تم پر اُٹھا کر تم سے پختہ عہد لیا تھا اور کہا تھا کہ "جو کتاب ہم تمہیں دے رہے ہیں اسے مضبوطی کے ساتھ تھامنا اور جو احکام و ہدایات اس میں درج ہیں انہیں یاد رکھنا۔ اسی ذریعے سے توقع کی جا سکتی ہے کہ تم تقویٰ کی روش پر چل سکو گے

|English| Then call to mind the other event: when Moses said to his people, "Allah commands you to sacrifice a cow," they replied, "Do you mean to have a jest with us?" He answered, "I crave Allahs protection from behaving like ignorant people."

|Urdu1| پھر وہ واقعہ یاد کرو، جب موسیٰ نے اپنی قوم سے کہا کہ اللہ تمہیں ایک گائے ذبح کرنے کا حکم دیتا ہے۔ کہنے لگے کیا تم ہم سے مذاق کرتے ہو؟ موسیٰ نے کہا: میں اس سے خدا کی پناہ مانگتا ہوں کہ جاہلوں کی سی بات کروں۔

|Transliteration| Qaloo odAAu lana rabbaka yubayyin lana ma hiya qala innahu yaqoolu innaha baqaratun la faridun wala bikrun AAawanun bayna thalika faifAAaloo ma tumaroona

|English| Then they said, "Please make a request to your Lord to give us some details of the cow." Moses answered, "Allah says that the cow should neither be old nor immature but of middle age. Do, therefore, as you are bidden."

|Urdu1| بولے اچھا، اپنے رب سے اس کرو کہ وہ ہمیں گائے کی کچھ تفصیل بتائے۔ موسیٰ نے کہا اللہ کا ارشاد ہے کہ وہ گائے ایسی ہونے چاہیئے جو نہ بوڑھی ہو نہ بچھیا، بلکہ اوسط عمر کی۔ لہٰذا جو حکم دیا جاتا ہے اس کی تعمیل کرو۔

|English| But they further asked, "Please request your Lord to make it clear to us of what colour she should be." Moses answered, "He says that she should be of yellow colour, so deep and bright as to delight the beholders."

|Urdu1| پِھر کہنے لگے اپنے رب سے یہ اور پُوچھ دو کہ اُس کا رنگ کیسا ہو۔ موسیٰ نے کہا وہ فرماتا ہے زرد رنگ کی گائے ہونی چاہیئے، جس کا رنگ ایسا شوخ ہو کہ دیکھنے والوں کا جی خوش ہو جائے

|Transliteration| Qala innahu yaqoolu innaha baqaratun la thaloolun tutheeru alarda wala tasqee alhartha musallamatun la shiyata feeha qaloo alana jita bialhaqqi fathabahooha wama kadoo yafAAaloona

|English| Moses answered, "Allah says that she should be a cow which has not been yoked nor has ploughed the land nor watered the fields; which is sound and whole, without belemish. " Then they cried out, "Now you have given an accurate description. " Then they sacrificed her but they did not appear to be doing this willingly.

|Urdu1| موسیٰ نے جواب دیا: اللہ کہتا ہے کہ وہ ایسی گائے ہے جس سے خدمت نہیں لی جاتی، نہ زمین میں جوتتی ہے نہ پانی کھینچتی ہے، صحیح سالم اور بے داغ ہے۔ اِس پر وہ پُکار اُٹھۓ ، اب تم نے ٹھیک پتہ بتایا ہے۔ پِھر انہوں نے اسے ذبح کیا، ورنہ وہ ایسا کرتے معلوم نہ ہوتے تھے

|English| You should also recall to mind another incident: You slew a man and began to dispute about the murder and accuse one another of it, but Allah had decreed that what you were trying to hide should be disclosed.

|Urdu1| اور تمہیں یاد ہے وہ واقعہ جب تم نے ایک شخص کی جان لی تھی، پِھر اس کے بارے میں جھگڑنے اور ایک دُوسرے پر قتل کا الزام تھوپنے لگے تھے اور اللہ نے فیصلہ کر لیا تھا کہ جو کچھ تم چُھپاتے ہو، اسے کھول کر رکھ دے گا

|English| So We commanded, "Strike the corpse of the murdered man with a part of the sacrificed cow. See how Allah brings the dead to life and shows you His Signs, so that you may understand".

|Transliteration| Thumma qasat quloobukum min baAAdi thalika fahiya kaalhijarati aw ashaddu qaswatan wainna mina alhijarati lama yatafajjaru minhu alanharu wainna minha lama yashshaqqaqu fayakhruju minhu almao wainna minha lama yahbitu min khashyati Allahi wama Allahu bighafilin AAamma taAAmaloona

|English| But even after seeing these Signs your hearts hardened and became as hard as rocks; nay, even harder than rocks. For there are some rocks out of which springs gush forth, and others which split open, and water issues out of them; then there are some which tumble down for fear of Allah. And Allah is not unaware of what you are doing.

|Urdu1| مگر ایسی نشانیاں دیکھنے کے بعد بھی آخرکار تمہارے دل سخت ہو گئے، پتھروں کی طرح سخت، بلکہ سختی میں کچھ اُن سے بھی بڑھے ہوئے، کیونکہ پتھروں میں سے تو کوئی ایسا بھی ہوتا ہے جس میں سے چشمے پُھوٹ بہتے ہیں، کوئی پھٹتا ہے اور اس میں سے پانی نکل آتا ہے، اور کوئی خوفِ خدا سے لرز کر گِر بھی پڑتا ہے۔ اللہ تمہارے کرتُوتوں سے بے خبر نہیں ہے

|English| O Muslims, do you then expect that these people will accept your invitation and become believers? whereas there have always been among them some who have been hearing the Word of God, understanding it well and then perverting and tampering with it knowingly.

|Urdu1| اے مسلمانو! اب کیا اِن لوگوں سے تم یہ توقع رکھتے ہو کہ یہ تمہاری دعوت پر ایمان لے آئیں گے؟ حالانکہ ان میں سے ایک گروہ کا شیوہ رہا ہے کہ اللہ کا کلام سُنا اور پھر خوب سمجھ بُوجھ کر دانستہ اس میں تحریف کی

|English| When they meet those who believe in Muhammad, they say, "We also believe in him." But when they meet one another in private, they say, "Have you got no sense that you disclose to them those things which Allah has revealed to you so that they might bring them as a proof against you before your Lord?

|Urdu1| محمّد رسول اللہ پر ایمان لانے والوں سے ملتے ہیں تو کہتے ہیں کہ ہم بھی انہیں مانتے ہیں، اور جب آپس میں ایک دوسرے سے تخلیے کی بات چیت ہوتی ہے تو کہتے ہیں کہ بے وقوف ہو گئے ہو؟ اِن لوگوں کی وہ باتیں بتاتے ہو جو اللہ نے تم پر کھولی ہیں تاکہ تمہارے رب کے پاس تمہارے مقابلے میں انہیں حجّت میں پیش کریں؟

|Transliteration| Fawaylun lillatheena yaktuboona alkitaba biaydeehim thumma yaqooloona hatha min AAindi Allahi liyashtaroo bihi thamanan qaleelan fawaylun lahum mimma katabat aydeehim wawaylun lahum mimma yaksiboona

|English| So woe to their learned people, who write the law with their own hands and then say to the people, "This is from Allah," so that they might gain some paltry worldly end. (They do not see that) this writing of their hands will bring woe to them and what they gain thereby will lead to their ruin.

|Urdu1| پس ہلاکت اور تباہی ہے اُن لوگوں کے لیئے جو اپنے ہاتھوں سے شرع کا نوشہ لکھتے ہیں پھر لوگوں سے کہتے ہیں کہ یہ اللہ کے پاس سے آیا ہوا ہے تاکہ اس کے معاوضے میں تھوڑا سا فائدہ حاصل کر کیں۔ ان کے ہاتھوں کا یہ لکھا بھی اُن کے لیئے تباہی کا سامان ہے اور ان کی یہ کمائی بھی ان کے لیئے موجبِ ہلاکت۔

|Transliteration| Waqaloo lan tamassana alnnaru illa ayyaman maAAdoodatan qul attakhathtum AAinda Allahi AAahdan falan yukhlifa Allahu AAahdahu am taqooloona AAala Allahi ma la taAAlamoona

|English| They also say, "The fire of Hell is not going to touch us, and even if it does at all, it will be only for a few days". Say, "Have you obtained a promise from Allah which He would not break? Or, do you attribute to Allah things you do not know?

|Urdu1| وہ کہتے ہیں کہ دوزخ کی آگ ہمیں چُھونے والی نہیں اِلّا یہ کہ چند روز کی سزا مل جائے۔ اِن سے پُوچھو، کی اتم نے اللہ سے کوئی عہد لے لیا ہے، جس کی خلاف ورزی وہ نہیں کر سکتا؟ یا بات یہ ہے کہ تم اللہ کے ذمّے ڈال کر ایسی باتیں کہہ دیتے ہو جن کے متعلق تمہیں علم نہیں ہے کہ اُس نے ان کا ذمّہ لیا ہے؟

|English| Why will not the fire of Hell touch you? Whoever earns evil and becomes engrossed in sin shall be doomed to Hell and abide therein for ever.

|Urdu1| آخر تمہیں دوزخ کی آگ کیوں نہیں پکڑے گی؟ جو بھی بدی کمائے گا اور اپنی خطاکاری کے چکّر میں پڑا رہے گا، وہ دوزخی ہے اور دوزخ ہی میں وہ ہمیشہ رہے گا

|English| Remember that We made a solemn covenant with the children of Israel to this effect: worship none save Allah: be good to your parents, to your relatives, to the orphans and to the helpless; speak aright with the people: establish the Salat and pay the Zakat. But with the exception of a few, you all slid back from it and are paying no heed to it even now.

|Urdu1| یاد کرو، اسرائیل کی اولاد سے ہم نے پختہ عہد لیا تھا کہ اللہ کے سوا کسی کی عبادت نہ کرنا، ماں باپ کے ساتھ، رشتے داروں کے ساتھ، یتیموں اور مسکینوں کے ساتھ نیک سلوک کرنا، لوگوں سے بھلی بات کہنا، نماز قائم کرنا اور زکوٰۃ دینا، مگر تھوڑے آدمیوں کے سوا تم سب اس عہد سے پِھر گئے اور اب تک پِھرے ہوئے ہو

|English| Remember also that We made another solemn covenant with you: you shall not shed blood among yourselves nor expel one another from your homes. And you confirmed it and you are a witness to it.

|Transliteration| Thumma antum haolai taqtuloona anfusakum watukhrijoona fareeqan minkum min diyarihim tathaharoona AAalayhim bialithmi waalAAudwani wain yatookum osara tufadoohum wahuwa muharramun AAalaykum ikhrajuhum afatuminoona bibaAAdi alkitabi watakfuroona bibaAAdin fama jazao man yafAAalu thalika minkum illa khizyun fee alhayati alddunya wayawma alqiyamati yuraddoona ila ashaddi alAAathabi wama Allahu bighafilin AAamma taAAmaloona

|English| But inspite of this, you are killing your brethren and driving them out from their homes and making unjust and aggressive alliances against one another. And when they come to you as captives, you trade on their ransoms whereas their expulsion itself was unlawful for you. Do you then believe in one part of the Scriptures and disbelieve in the other?92 What other punishment do such people from among you deserve except an ignominious life in this world and the most grievous doom on the Day of Resurrection? Allah is not unaware of what you are doing.

|Urdu1| مگر آج تم وہی ہو کہ اپنے بندوں کو قتل کرتے ہو، اپنے برادری کے کچھ لوگوں کو بے خانماں کر دیتے ہو، ظلم و زیادتی کے ساتھ اُن کے خلاف جتھے بندیاں کرتے ہو، اور جب وہ لڑائی میں پکڑے ہوئے تمہارے پاس آتے ہیں، تو ان کی رہائی کے لیئے فدیہ کا لین دین کرتے ہو، حالانکہ انہیں ان کے گھروں سے نکالنا ہی سِرے سے تم پر حرام تھا۔ تو کیا تم کتاب کے ایک حصّے پر ایمان لاتے ہو اور دُوسرے حصّے کے ساتھ کفر کرتے ہو؟ پِھر تم میں سے جو لوگ ایسا کریں، ان کی سزا اس کے سوا اور کیا ہے کہ دُنیا کی زندگی میں ذلیل و خوار ہو کر رہیں اور آخرت میں شدید ترین عذاب کی طرف پھیر دیئے جائیں؟ اللہ اِن حرکات سے بے خبر نہیں ہے جو تم کر رہے ہو

|English| These are the people who have preferred the worldly life to the life in the Hereafter. Therefore their torment shall not be lightened nor shall help be given to them (from any quarter).

|English| And We gave Moses the Book and sent after him a train of Messengers in succession. Then We sent Jesus, son of Mary, with clear Signs and supported him with the Holy Spirit. Then how is it that whenever a Messenger came to you wish that which did not suit your lusts, you grew rebellious against him, and repudiated some and slew others.

|Urdu1| ہم نے موسیٰ کو کتاب دی، اس کے بعد پے در پے رسول بھیجے، آخر کار عیسیٰ ابنِ مریم کو روشن نشانیاں دے کر بھیجا اور روح، پاک سے اس کی مدد کی۔ پھر یہ تمہارا کیا ڈھنگ ہے کہ جب بھی کوئی رسول تمہارے خواہشاتتِ نفس کے خلاف کوئی چیز لے کر تمہارے پاس آیا، تو تم نے اس کے مقابلے میں سرکشی ہی کی، کسی کو جُھٹلایا اور کسی کو قتل کر ڈالا

|English| And how are they behaving now towards a Book which has come to them from Allah? Inspite of the fact that it confirms the Scriptures which they already possessed. and, inspite of the fact that, before it came, they used to pray for a signal victory over the disbelievers, they rejected it when it came, although they recognized it. May Allahs curse be upon such disbelievers

|Urdu1| اور اب جو ایک کتاب اللہ کی طرف سے ان کے پاس آئی ہے، اس کے ساتھ ان کا کیا برتاؤ ہے؟ باوجودیکہ وہ اس کتاب کی تصدیق کرتی ہے جو ان کے پاس پہلے سے موجود تہی، باوجودیکہ اس کی آمد سے پہلے وہ خود کفار کے مقابلے میں فتح و نُصرت کی دعائیں مانگا کرتے تھے، مگر جب وہ چیز آ گئی ہے، جسے وہ پہچان بھی گئے، تو انہوں نے اسے ماننے سے انکار کر دیا۔ خدا کی لعنت اِن مُنکرین پر۔

|Transliteration| Bisama ishtaraw bihi anfusahum an yakfuroo bima anzala Allahu baghyan an yunazzila Allahu min fadlihi AAala man yashao min AAibadihi fabaoo bighadabin AAala ghadabin walilkafireena AAathabun muheenun

|English| What a mean thing it is with which they delude their minds. They reject the Guidance which Allah has sent down merely because of their grudge why Allah has in His bounty sent it to whom He chose from amongst His servants. They have thus incurred wrath after wrath, and for such disbelievers there is a disgraceful doom.

|Urdu1| کیسا بُرا ذریعہ ہے جس سے یہ اپنے نفس کی تسلّی حاصل کرتے ہیں کہ جو ہدایت اللہ نے نازل کی ہے، اس کو قبول کرنے سے صرف اِس ضِد کی بنیاد پر انکار کر رہے ہیں کہ اللہ نے اپنے فضل (وحی اور رسالت) سے اپنے بندوں کو خود چاہا، نواز دیا! لہٰذا اب یہ غضب بالائے غضب کے مستحق ہو گئے ہیں اور ایسے کافروں کے لیئے سخت ذِلّت آمیز سزا پقرر ہے

|Transliteration| Waitha qeela lahum aminoo bima anzala Allahu qaloo numinu bima onzila AAalayna wayakfuroona bima waraahu wahuwa alhaqqu musaddiqan lima maAAahum qul falima taqtuloona anbiyaa Allahi min qablu in kuntum mumineena

|English| When it is said to them, "Believe in that which Allah has sent down," they say, "We believe only in that which has been sent to us", and reject everything else, though it is the Truth and confirms what is with them. Well, ask them, "If you sincerely believed in what was sent down to you, why did you kill the Messengers of Allah (who were sent to you from amongst yourselves)?

|Urdu1| اُن سے کہا جاتا ہے کہ جو کچھ اللہ نے نازل کیا ہے اس پر ایمان لاؤ تو وہ کہتے ہیں "ہم تو صرف اُس چییز پر ایمان لاتے ہیں، (یعنی نسلِ اسرائیل میں) اُتری ہے"۔ اس دائرے کے باہر کوجو کچھ آیا ہے، اسے ماننے سے وہ انکار کرتے ہیں، حالانکہ وہ حق ہے اور اُس تعلیم کی تصدیق و تائید کر رہا ہے جو ان کے ہاں پہلے سے موجود تہھ۔ اچھّا ان سے کہو: اگر تم اُس تعلیم ہی پر ایمان رکھنے والے ہو جو تمہارے ہاں آئی تھی، تو اس سے پہلے اللہ کے پیغمبروں (جو خود بنی اسرائیل میں پیدا ہوئے تھے) کیوں قتل کرتے رہے؟

|English| Recall also to mind the Covenant We made with you while We raised the Tur over you: `Follow strictly the precepts We are giving you and give ear to Our Commandments. Your forefathers replied, "We have heard but we will not obey." They were so prone to unbelief that they cherished the calf in their hearts. Tell them (O Muhammad). "If indeed you are believers, yours is a strange Faith that enjoins you to do such evil things."

|Urdu1| پھر ذرا اُس میثاق کو یاد کرو، جو طُر کو تمہارے اُوپر اُٹھا کر ہم نے تم سے لیا تھا۔ ہم نے تاکید کی تھی کہ جو ہدایات ہم دے رہے ہیں، ان کی سختی کے ساتھ پابندی کرو اور کان لگا کر سنو۔۔ تمہارے سلاف نے کہا کہ ہم نے سُن لیا، مگر مانیں گے نہیں۔ اور ان کی باطل پرستی کا یہ حال تھا کہ دلوں میں ان کے بچھڑا ہی بسا ہُوا تھا۔ کہو اگر تم مومن ہو، تو یہ عجیب ایمان ہے، جو ایسی بُری حرکات کا تمہیں حکم دیتا ہے۔

|English| Say to them, "If the abode of the Hereafter with Allah is exclusively reserved for you and not for the rest of mankind, then you should long for death, if you arc sincere in your claim."

|Urdu1| اِن سے کہو کہ اگر واقعی اللہ کے نزدیک آخرت کا گھر تمام انسانوں کو چھوڑ کر صرف تمہارے ہی لیئے مخصُوص ہے، تب تو تمہیں چاہیے کہ موت کی تمنا کرو، اگر تم اپنے اس خیال میں سچّے ہو

|Urdu1| یقین جانو کہ یہ کبھی اِس کی تمنّا نہ کریں گے، اس لیئے کہ اپنے ہاتھوں جو کچھ کما کر انہوں نے وہاں بھیجا ہے، اُس کا اقتضا یہی ہے (کہ یہ وہاں جانے کی تمنّا نہ کریں)، اللہ ان ظالموں کے حال سے خوب واقف ہے

|Transliteration| Walatajidannahum ahrasa alnnasi AAala hayatin wamina allatheena ashrakoo yawaddu ahaduhum law yuAAammaru alfa sanatin wama huwa bimuzahzihihi mina alAAathabi an yuAAammara waAllahu baseerun bima yaAAmaloona

|English| You will find that, of all mankind, they are the greediest for life, nay, they are even greedier than the mushriks. Each one of them longs to have a life Of a thousand years, but a long life can, by no means, remove them away from the scourge, for Allah is watching whatever they are doing.

|Urdu1| تم انہیں سب سے بڑھ کر جینے کا حریص پاؤ گے حتّیٰ کے یہ اس معاملے میں مشرکوں سے بھی بڑھے ہوئے ہیں۔ ان میں ایک ایک شخص یہ چاہتا ہے کہ کسی طرح ہزار برس جیے، حالانکہ لمبی عمر بہرحال اُسے عذاب سے تو دُور نہیں پھینک سکتی۔ جیسے کچھ اعمال یہ کر رہے ہیں، اللہ تو انہیں دیکھ ہی رہا ہے۔

|English| Say to them, "Whoever is enemy to Gabriel, should understand that he has, by Allahs command, revealed to your heart the Quran which confirms what was revealed before it, and brings Guidance and glad tidings to the Believers.

|Urdu1| اِن سے کہو کہ جو کوئی جبریل سے عداوت رکھتا ہو، اسے معلوم ہونا چاہیے کہ جبریل نے اللہ ہی کے اِذن سے یہ قرآن تمہارے قلب پر نازل کیا ہے، جو پہلے آئی ہوئی کتابوں کی تصدیق و تائید کرتا ہے اور ایمان لانے والوں کے لیئے ہدایت اور کامیابی بشارت بن کر آیا ہے۔

|Urdu1| (اگر جبریل سے ان کی عداوت کا سبب کہ) یہی اور جبریل ہے، تو کہہ دو جو اللہ اور اس کے فرشتوں اور اس کے رسولوں اور جبریل اور میکائیل کے دشمن ہیں، اللہ ان کافروں کا دشمن ہے۔

|Urdu1| کیا ہمیشہ ایسا نہیں ہوتا رہا ہے کہ جب انہوں نے کوئی عہد کیا، تو ان میں سے ایک نہ ایک گروہ نے اُسے ضرور ہی بالائے طاق رکھ دیا؟ بلکہ ان میں سے اکثر ایسے ہی ہیں، جو سچّے دل سے ایمان نہیں لاتے۔

|English| And whenever a Messenger came to them from Allah, confirming that Scripture which they already possessed, some from among the people of the Book threw the Book of Allah behind their backs as though they knew nothing about it.

|Urdu1| اور جب ان کے پاس اللہ کی طرف سے کوئی رسول اُس کتاب کی تائید کرتا ہوا آیا جو اِن کے ہاں پہلے سے ہی موجود تھی، تو اِن اہلِ کتاب میں سے ایک گروہ نے کتاب اللہ کو پسِ پُشت ڈالا، گویا کہ وہ کچھ جانتے ہی نہیں۔

|Transliteration| WaittabaAAoo ma tatloo alshshayateenu AAala mulki sulaymana wama kafara sulaymanu walakinna alshshayateena kafaroo yuAAallimoona alnnasa alssihra wama onzila AAala almalakayni bibabila haroota wamaroota wama yuAAallimani min ahadin hatta yaqoola innama nahnu fitnatun fala takfur fayataAAallamoona minhuma ma yufarriqoona bihi bayna almari wazawjihi wama hum bidarreena bihi min ahadin illa biithni Allahi wayataAAallamoona ma yadurruhum wala yanfaAAuhum walaqad AAalimoo lamani ishtarahu ma lahu fee

|English| (Instead of this,) they began to follow that (magic) to which the devils falsely attributed (the greatness of) the kingdom of Solomon. In fact Solomon .was never involved in any practice of disbelief, but the satans, who taught magic to the people were themselves guilty of disbelief. They were after that thing which was sent to Harut and Marut, the two angels at Babylon. Whenever these two angels taught black art to anyone, they would always give a clear warning beforehand, saying, "We are merely a trial for you; so you should not commit blasphemy. But in spite of this warning, those people used to learn from the angels the art which caused division between husband and wife. Although it was obvious that they could not do any harm to anyone by means of this magic without Allahs permission, yet they learnt that art which could not be profitable even for them but was actually harmful. |Urdu1| اور لگے اُن چیزوں کی پیروی کرنے، جو شیاطین، سلیمان کی سلطنت کا نام لے کر پیش کیا کرتے تھے، حالانکہ سلیمان نے کبھی کفر نہیں کیا، کفر کے مرتکب تو وہ شیاطین تھے جو لوگوں کو جادوگری کی تعلیم دیتے تھے، وہ پیچھے پڑے اُس چیز کے جو بابل میں دو فرشتوں ، ہاروت اور ماروت پر نازل کی گئی تھی، حالانکہ وہ (فرشتے) جب بھی کسی کو اُس کی تعلیم دیتے تھے، تو پہلے صاف طور پر مُتنبّہ کر دیا کرتے تھے کہ "دیکھ، ہم محض ایک آزمائش ہیں، تُو کفر میں مبتلا نہ ہو۔" پھر بھی یہ لوگ اُس سے وہ چیز سیکھتے تھے، جس سے شوہر اور بیوی میں جدائی ڈال دیں۔ ظاہر تھا کہ اذنِ الٰہی کے بغیر وہ اس ذریعے سے کسی کو بھی ضرر نہ پہنچا سکتے تھے، مگر اس کے باوجود وہ ایسی چیز سیکھتے تھے جو خود ان کی لیئے نفع بخش نہیں، بلکہ نقصان دہ تھی اور انہیں خوب معلوم تھا کہ جو اس چیز کا خریدار بنا، اس کے لیئے آخرت میں کوئی حصّہ نہیں، کتنی بُری متاع تھی جس کے بدلے انہوں نے اپنی جانوں کو بیچ ڈالا، کاش انہیں معلوم ہوتا

|English| Many of the people of the Book desire to turn you anyhow back to unbelief. They wish this out of the envy of their hearts though the Truth has become quite clear to them. Yet, you should show forbearance and forgiveness to them till Allah Himself enforces His judgement. (Rest assured that) Allah has full power over everything:

|English| The fact is that no one has any special claim to Paradise; whoever surrenders himself to Allah in obedience and follows the Right Way, shall get his reward from his Lord: there shall be neither fear nor grief for such people.

|English| The Jews say that the Christians have nothing (of the Truth) and the Christians say that the Jews have nothing of it, though both read the Scripture. And those who have no knowledge of the Scripture113 also make similar claims. Allah will surely give His judgement on the Day of Resurrection in all the matters in which they differ.

|English| And who could be a greater wrongdoer than the one who forbids the mention of Allahs name in places of worship and strives for their ruin? Such people do not deserve to enter the places of worship, and, if they enter at all, they should do so in fear;114 for there is ignominy for them in this world and an awful punishment in the Hereafter.

|English| The Jews and the Christians will never be satisfied with you, O Muhammad, until you follow their way.121 Tell them plainly, "The right way is shown by Allah." And if, after all the knowledge you have received, you were to yield to their desires, you shall find neither any friend nor helper to protect you from Allahs wrath.

|English| Recall to mind that when his Lord put Abraham to test124 in certain things and he fulfilled all of them, He said, "I am going to make you the leader of mankind." Abraham humbly asked, "Does this promise apply to my descendants also?" He replied, "My promise does not apply to the transgressors."

|English| And remember that We made this House (the Kabah) the centre nd sanctuary for mankind and enjoined the people to dedicate to worship the place where Abraham used to stand for prayer, and We urged Abraham and Ismail to keep My House pure for those who would go round it and those who would retire to it for devotion and prayer and for those who would bow down and prostrate themselves there in worhsip.126

|Transliteration| Waith qala ibraheemu rabbi ijAAal hatha baladan aminan waorzuq ahlahu mina alththamarati man amana minhum biAllahi waalyawmi alakhiri qala waman kafara faomattiAAuhu qaleelan thumma adtarruhu ila AAathabi alnnari wabisa almaseeru

|English| And remember that Abraham prayed, "Lord, make this city a city of peace and security, and provide with every kind of fruit those of its people, who believe in Allah and the Last Day. Allah answered, "As for the disbelievers, I will also provide them with the necessities of life in this world,127 though in the Next World I will drag them to the torment of Hell, and that is the worst abode."

|Urdu1| اور یہ کہ ابراہیم نے دعا کی: "اے میرے رب، اس شہر کو امن کا شہر بنا دے، اور اس کے باشندوں میں سے جو اللہ اور آخرت کو مانیں، انھیں ہر قسم کے پھلوں کا رزق دے"۔ جواب میں اُس کے رب نے فرمایا: "اور جو نہ مانے گا، دنیا کی چند روزہ زندگی کا سامان تو میں اُسے بھی دُوں گا، مگر آخرکار اُسے عذابِ جہنم کی طرف گھسیٹوں گا اور وہ بد ترین ٹھکانا ہے"۔

|English| And remember that when Abraham and Ishmael were raising the walls of the House, they prayed, "Lord, accept this service from us; You are All-Hearing and All-Knowing.

|Urdu1| اور یاد کرو ابراہیمؑ اور اسمٰعیلؑ جب اس گھر کی دیواریں اُٹھا رہے تھے، تو دعا کرتے جاتے تھے، :"اے ہمارے رب، ہم سے یہ خدمت قبول کر لے، تُو سب کی سننے والا ہے۔

|Transliteration| Rabbana waijAAalna muslimayni laka wamin thurriyyatina ommatan muslimatan laka waarina manasikana watub AAalayna innaka anta alttawwabu alrraheemu

|English| Lord, make us Your Muslims (submissive servants) and also raise from our offspring a community which should be Muslim (submissive to Your Will). Show us the ways of Your worship and forbear our shortcomings: You are Forgiving and Merciful.

|Urdu1| اے رب، ہم دونوں کو اپنا مُسلم (مطیعِ فرمان) بنا، ہماری نسل سے ایک ایسی قوم اُٹھا، جو تیری مسلم ہو، ہمیں اپنی عبادت کے طریقے بتا، اور ہماری کوتاہیوں سے درگزر فرما، تُو بڑا معاف کرنے والا اور رحم فرمانے والا ہے۔

|English| Lord, raise up from among them a Messenger who shall recite Your Revelations to them and teach them the Book and Wisdom and purify their lives. You are All-Powerful and All-Wise".

|Urdu1| اۓ رب، ان لوگوں میں خود اُنہی کی قوم سے ایک ایسا رسُول اُٹھائیو، جو اُنھیں تیری آیات سنائے، اُن کو کتاب اور حکمت کی تعلیم دے اور اُن کی زندگیاں سنوارے۔ تو بڑا مقتدر اور حکیم ہے۔

|Transliteration| Waman yarghabu AAan millati ibraheema illa man safiha nafsahu walaqadi istafaynahu fee alddunya wainnahu fee alakhirati lamina alssaliheena

|English| Now, who else can have aversion to the way of Abraham but the one who has debased himself with folly and ignorance? Abraham was the man whom We chose for Our service in this world, and in the Next World he shall be among the righteous.

|Urdu1| اب کون ہے، جو ابراہیمؑ کے طریقے سے نفرت کرے؟ جس نے خود اپنے آپ کو حماقت اور جہالت میں مُبتلا کر لیا ہو، اس کے سوا کون یہ حرکت کر سکتا ہے؟ ابراہیمؑ تو وہ شخص ہے، جس کو ہم نے دنیا میں اپنے کام کے لیئے چُن لیا تھا اور آخرت میں اس کا شمار صالحین میں ہو گا۔

|English| When his Lord said to him, "Surrender," he promptly responded, "I have surrendered to the Lord of the Universe (and become a Muslim)."

|Urdu1| اس کا حال یہ تھا کہ جب اس کے رب نے اس سے کہا:"مُسلم ہو جا"، تو اس نے فوراً کہا: "میں مالکِ کائنات کا "مُسلم" ہو گیا۔"

|Transliteration| Wawassa biha ibraheemu baneehi wayaAAqoobu ya baniyya inna Allaha istafa lakumu alddeena fala tamootunna illa waantum muslimoona

|English| He also enjoined on his children to follow the same way. Jacob also did the same and his last will to his sons was, "O my children, Allah has chosen the same way of life for you. Hence remain Muslims up to your last breath."

|Urdu1| اسی طریقے پر چلنے کی ہدایت اس نے اپنی اولاد کو کی تھی اور اسی کی وصیّت یعقوب اپنی اولاد کو کر گیا۔ اس نے کہا تھا کہ "میرے بچّو، اللہ نے تمہارے لیئے یہی دین پسند کیا ہے۔ لہٰذا مرتے دم تک مسل ہی رہنا"۔

|Transliteration| Am kuntum shuhadaa ith hadara yaAAqooba almawtu ith qala libaneehi ma taAAbudoona min baAAdee qaloo naAAbudu ilahaka wailaha abaika ibraheema waismaAAeela waishaqa ilahan wahidan wanahnu lahu muslimoona

|English| Were you present at the time when Jacob was on the point of death? He asked his children, "Whom will you worship after me?" They all answered, "We will worship the same One Allah Whom you, your forefathers Abraham. Ismail and Isaac acknowledged as their Allah and to Him we all surrender as Muslims."

|Urdu1| پھر کیا تم اُس وقت موجود تھے، جب یعقوبؑ اس دنیا سے رُخصت ہو رہا تھا؟ اس نے مرتے وقت اپنے بیٹوں سے پُوچھا: "بچّو! میرے بعد تم کس کی بندگی کرو گے"؟ ان سب نے جواب دیا: "ہم اسی ایک خدا کی بندگی کریں گے، جسے آپ نے اور آپ کے بزرگوں ابراہیمؑ، اسمٰعیلؑ اور اسحاق نے خدا مانا ہے اور ہم اُسی کے مُسلم ہیں"۔

|English| They were a people who passed away; they shall receive the reward of what they earned and you shall have the reward of what you will earn; and you will not be questioned as to what they did.

|Urdu1| وہ کچھ لوگ تھے جو گزر گئے۔ جو کچھ انہوں نے کمایا، وہ اُن کے لیئے ہے اور جو کچھ تم کماؤ گے، وہ تمہارے لیئے ہے۔ تم سے یہ نہ پوچھا جائے گا کہ وہ کیا کرتے تھے۔

|Transliteration| Waqaloo koonoo hoodan aw nasara tahtadoo qul bal millata ibraheema haneefan wama kana mina almushrikeena

|English| The Jews say, "Become Jews and you will be rightly guided" ;the Christians say, "Become Christians and you will have the true guidance." Say to them, "Nay, we turn away from every other way and accept the way of Abraham, and Abraham did not associate other gods with Allah."

|Urdu1| یہودی کہتے ہیں: یہودی ہو تو راہِ راست پاؤ گے۔ عیسائی کہتے ہیں: عیسائی ہو تو ہدایت ملے گی۔ اِن سے کہو: "نہیں، بلکہ سب کو چھوڑ کر ابراہیمؑ کا طریقہ۔ اور ابراہیمؑ مُشرکوں میں سے نہ تھا۔

|Transliteration| Qooloo amanna biAllahi wa ma onzila ilayna wa ma onzila ila ibraheema wa ismaAAeela wa ishaqa wa yaAAqooba waalasbati wa ma ootiya moosa wa AAeesa wa ma ootiya alnnabiyyoona min rabbihim la nufarriqu bayna ahadin minhum wa nahnu lahu muslimoona

|English| O Muslims, say to them, O Muslims, say to them, "We believe in Allah and the Guidance which has been sent down to us and which was sent to Abraham, Ismail , Isaac and Jacob and his descendants and which was given by their Lord to Moses and Jesus and to all other Prophets. We do not discriminate against any of them136 and we have completely surrendered to Allah as Muslims."

|Urdu1| مسلامانوں، کہو کہ "ہم ایمان لائے اللہ پر اور اس ہدایت پر جو ہماری طرف نازل ہوئی ہے اور جو ابراہیم، اسماعیل، اسحاق، یعقوب اور اولادِ یعقوب کی طرف نازل ہوئی تھی اور جو موسیٰ اور عیسیٰ اور دوسرے پیغمبروں کو اُن کے رب کی طرف سے دی گئی تھی، ہم ان کے درمیان کوئی تفریق نہیں کرتے اور ہم اللہ کے مسلم ہیں

|Transliteration| Fain amanoo bimithli ma amantum bihi faqadi ihtadaw wain tawallaw fainnama hum fee shiqaqin fasayakfeekahumu Allahu wahuwa alssameeAAu alAAaleemu

|English| Then if they believe the way you have believed, they have the right guidance,and if they turn away from this, it will become obvious that they are obdurate. Therefore, rest assured that Allah will suffice to defend you against them: He hears everything and knows every thing. "We believe in Allah and the Guidance which has been sent down to us and which was sent to Abraham, Ismail , Isaac and Jacob and his descendants and which was given by their Lord to Moses and Jesus and to all other Prophets. We do not discriminate against any of them136 and we have completely surrendered to Allah as Muslims."

|English| O Prophet, say to them, "Do you argue with us concerning Allah, whereas He is our Lord and also your Lord? We shall be accountable to Him for our deeds and you for yours; so we have dedicated our worship to Him alone.

|Urdu1| اے نبی! ان سے کہو: کیا تم اللہ کے بارے میں ہم سے جھگڑتے ہو؟ حالانکہ وہی ہمارا رب بھی ہے اور تمہارا رب بھی۔ ہمارے اعمال ہمارے لیئے ہیؐ، اور تمہارے اعمال تمہارے لیئے، اور ہم اللہ ہی کے لیئے اپنی بنگی کو خالص کر چکے ہیں

|English| Or do you say that Abraham. Ismail , Isaac, Jacob and his children were all Jews or Christians?" Ask them,"Do you know more than Allah does? And who is more unjust than the one who hides the testimony which Allah has entrusted to him? Allah is not unaware of what you are doing.

|Urdu1| یا پھر کیا یہ تمہارا کہنا ہے کہ ابراہیم، اسماعیل، اسحاق، یعقوب اور اولادِ یعقوب سب کے سب یہدی تھے یا نصرانی تھے، کہو: تم زیادہ جانتے ہو یا اللہ؟ اُس شخص سے بڑا ظالم کون ہو گا، جس کے ذمے اللہ کی طرف سے ایک گواہی ہو اور وہ اُسے چھپائے؟ تمپاری حرکات سے اللہ غافل تو نہیں ہے

|English| In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.
